Hello everyone, I am going to try to be more formal with this Worldly Monk post because I think it is kind of a good topic: It is about how people sometimes say, "When people make plans, God laughs."
It is similar to a concept in the bible and a verse that says, "A man's heart plans its way, but the lord directs his steps." Also, there is a verse that says "Delight yourself in the lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." And one more, "All things work together for the good of those who love Christ Jesus and are called according to his purpose."
So these verses present a very amazing blessing for people who God has no obligation to care about, and yet it is very thoughtful of him to make every aspect of history, space, and time work in your favor. And for God to vigilantly pay attention to your whole life and guide your steps is actually a very nice comfort.
So I have to say that the saying people quote a lot about him laughing at our plans comes across to me as a little ungrateful, kind of discouraging, and frankly rather disrespectful. I feel that it portrays him as a scoffer when really he has had mercy on us for being that way and helps things work out after all.
I mean honestly to me, it is worse than just a distortion. It is really the opposite of what is actually true about how he cares. It makes it sound like he mocks our dreams when really he has included everyone in a very considerate and loving plan.
However, I think people mean well when they say it, and the thing about a joke is that it can convey the opposite thing that it states. So I don't mean to judge, and obviously I have my foibles and enjoy some entertaining sacrilege very often. It simply was one of the desires of my heart to carry a cross of crossing the lines of religious humor.
